Colin Riley & Orbit Music present

Gobsmack

Friday 14 November

New Greenham Arts

Gobsmack, the experimental vocal night which thinks outside the voicebox, comes to Newbury. Curated by Music Orbit the event will feature six vibrantly different acts performing short sets: Curious Voice Duo combine a childlike curiosity for the voice with influences from jazz, contemporary and folk music; experimental composer/ singer Kerry Andrew mixes up loops, folk, avant-pop, lo-fi instruments and electronica to create leftfield songs; Laura Moody combines voice with ‘cello in a theatrical way, exploring avant-garde and leftfield pop music; anarchic looper Bunty uses one mouth, one mic and one loop station to produce offbeat, multi-layered solo sets; Mikhail Karikis is an inter-disciplinary performer whose work encompasses sound installations, electronica and folk music; and sound artist Harry Neve uses contact and electromagnetic mics to pick up the sounds of disused, broken laptops and computer monitors.

Horse’s Brawl & Olivia Chaney

Thursday 4 December

New Greenham Arts

Horses Brawl have been causing quite a stir with their cutting-edge take on early and traditional music. Rooted firmly in traditional English folk and Renaissance European music the experimental duo have performed live on BBC Radio 3's Early Music Show and were recently recorded in concert for Late Junction. Olivia Chaney, a young folk singer and gifted virtuoso, will conjure dark-eyed sailors, damsels in distress and rakish Knights from an Indian harmonium and steel-string guitar.
